چکیده
Through research such as Laura Miller, Yoshiko Matsumoto, and Benedict Anderson, it has been argued that a convergence between the genders for Japanese speakers has occurred during the past 20 years. Japanese definition of femininity is evolving but not necessarily outwardly towards hyper-traditional femininity. Instead we see examples of how women have begun to incorporate masculine tagged phrases and incorporate them into their own speech patterns. Gender language in Japanese society are merging, creating different standards for what is considered feminine and what in turn is created masculine. Through this change we can observe the way that people’s concepts of societal norms are changing. Japanese language standards can actually indicate the cultural shift between the minimizing disparities between Japanese men and women. In my poster presentation I plan to present data about how overseas Japanese nationals are affected, if at all, by this transition to more neutral terms. By interviewing local Japanese immigrants, and by analyzing their sentence structure and use of language I will impart my findings the way that Japanese men and women who immigrated to the United States use their language to perform gendered identities. I believe that due to the foreign conditions that the Japanese find in the United States that the Japanese living in the United States will actually exhibit less gendered ways of speaking. The study will be conducted around 15-20 people. In this way they can assert their solidarity between the two genders which would not usually be witnessed in Japan. Due to the environment, where few Americans are able to relate culturally to those who immigrated, men and women will find more stability in their co-patriots through less gendered forms of speech. Testing of this theory through my research and determining actual Japanese linguistic patterns in relation to gendered stylistic sentence final particles employed will be presented on the poster.

The Effect of Omega Fatty Acids on Bcl-2 Gene Expression and Protein Production in Cancerous Gastric Tissue
Introduction: Gastric cancer is the fourth common cancer and the second leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. Omega fatty acids are a group of non-saturated fatty acids of long chains derive from linolenic, linoleic and oleic fatty acids. The current study aimed at examining the possible effects of oral administration of omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acids on gastric cancer cell apoptosis in...
متن کاملThe effect of omega- 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on endothelial tight junction occludin expression in rat aorta during lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation
Objective(s): Occludin is essential for proper assembly of tight junctions (TJs) which regulate paracellular endothelial permeability. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (Ω-3 PUFA) protect endothelial barrier function against injury. Materials and Methods: We examined anti-inflammatory effect of Ω-3 PUFA intake (30 mg/kg/day for 10 days) on expression and location of occludin in the aorta of ...

متن کاملRe: Dietary modulation of omega-3/omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid ratios in patients with breast cancer.
BACKGROUND Polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-6 (omega-6) class, as found in corn and safflower oils, can act as precursors for intermediates involved in the growth of mammary tumors when fed to animals, whereas polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 (omega-3) class, as found in fish oil, can inhibit these effects. The effects of dietary intervention on the ratios of these fatty acids...

Background and Objectives: Omega-3 fatty acids are very important in the human diet for the prevention of diseases. Materials & Methods: In the present study, the effect of whey protein concentrate (5, 6.67, 10, 13.33, 15%) and guar gum (0.1, 0.25, 0.55, 0.85, 1%) were evaluated on the qualitative properties of fish oil emulsion and electrospun fibers. Results: Increasing concentration of whey...
متن کاملInduction of mammary differentiation by mammary-derived growth inhibitor-related gene that interacts with an omega-3 fatty acid on growth inhibition of breast cancer cells.
We previously identified and characterized a novel tumor growth inhibitor and a fatty acid-binding protein in human mammary gland and named it the mammary-derived growth inhibitor-related gene (MRG). Here, the effects of MRG on mammary gland differentiation and its interaction with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFAs) on growth inhibition were investigated. MRG protein expression...
